David E. Battaglia, Ph.D. comes to OHSU with over 20 years of experience with the biology of oocytes and fertilization.  He graduated from Oregon State University in 1977, received a Masters degree in Reproductive Biology at the University of Hawaii in 1978, and a Ph.D. in Biological Structure at the University of Washington in 1986. 

He was a postdoctoral fellow in the department of Biochemistry at the University of Washington from 1986-90 and subsequently joined the faculty in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Minnesota in 1990.  Dr. Battaglia, joined the faculty in OBGYN at the University of Washington as an Assistant Professor and Director of the In Vitro fertilization laboratory in 1992. He became an Associate Professor in that department in 1997. 

Dr. Battaglia is board certified by the American Board of Bioanalysis and has extensive experience with advancements in clinical laboratori es and in vitro fertilization procedures.  His research has examined many aspects of fertilization biology from sea urchins to humans.  His current interests focus on the effects of maternal aging on oocyte biology, in addition to advancing technologies surrounding oocyte and ovarian freezing
